Biography

Minà Minov (born 1982, Sofia, Bulgaria) lives and works in Sofia. He studied at the High School of Fine Arts “Iliya Petrov” in Sofia from 1996 to 2001, followed by BA and MA studies in Sculpture at the National Academy of Arts, Sofia, from 2001 to 2007. In 2004, he took part in the Erasmus Programme at HKU, Utrecht. He completed an MFA in Painting at the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen from 2007 to 2009, including an exchange semester at Hunter College, New York, in 2008. Minov was an artist-in-residence at Tsarino Art Residency, Bulgaria, in 2011; at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace, New York, from 2012 to 2013; and at Marvin Gardens, Ridgewood, Queens, in 2016. His solo exhibitions and projects include Resting Reliefs at Kunstruimte Wagemans, Beetsterzwaag, and Exoticism at CBK, Groningen (2011); Over the Top of Kamen Del, a site-specific performance in Sofia (2012); Pretty People at The Fridge, Sofia (2014); I Flew, a site-specific installation and performance in Sofia (2015); American Elegance at Marvin Gardens, New York (2016); To Rest on a Rest Day at One Night Stand Gallery, Sofia (2017); Minà Minov, an online video show presented by Marvin Gardens, New York (2020); Anniversary (mostly sculptural) exhibition at Goethe-Institut Bulgaria, Sofia (2023); and Life-Specific at +359 Gallery, Sofia (2026). His group exhibitions include presentations at Sofia City Art Gallery, Sariev Gallery, ICA–Sofia, Contemporary Space in Varna, Galleria Alberta Pane in Venice, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria, NADA New York, ZieherSmith in New York, and the Biennial of Young Artists in Bucharest. In 2014, he curated Same Standing /166 at Kreuzberg Pavillon, Berlin, and Same Standing /183 at Geh8, Dresden. He received the St. Cyril and Methodius Foundation Award in 2006, the George Verberg Stipendium in 2009 and the Szpilman Award in 2012, and was nominated for the BAZA Award in 2011.
