IF, 2026, Installation, Wood, metal, resin, 2 m × 1.30 m × 2.30 m
ArtistsThrough “IF,” the history of Roman conquest meets our contemporary reality, where imperial violence persists through missiles and remote strikes. Technologies evolve, but the mechanisms of domination remain. Rather than faithfully reproducing a historical ballista, the installation simulates its gesture. Ropes evoke shibari, while suction-cup-like projectiles shift the weapon from threat toward play, fiction and performance. The title “IF” refers to yew, a wood traditionally prized for making bows, famously associated with the English longbow. At the same time, “if” evokes possibility, uncertainty and imagination. Between weapon and toy, violence and play, history and fiction, “IF” questions how we represent and simulate violence.
