One night at Comics club, Series of 26 photos printed on paper
ArtistsThese 26 frames represent my personal perspective on one night in the world of Comics and its party crowd — a night announced as the Closing Party in 2005. My intention was to capture the emotions of people who seemed to be saying goodbye to their club, rather than create a conventional documentary or a series of “perfect” photographs. What interested me was the nostalgic emotion between friends who had gathered to dance one last time in their club, sharing a sense of togetherness and solidarity — clubbers and staff alike. The fact that all the photographs were taken on a single roll of black-and-white film is an essential part of the concept. There are exactly 26 frames — neither more nor less. They follow the natural progression of the night and, together, form a small visual narrative. For me, the series also has another layer: it carries a strong sense of the House culture that the club helped establish during the first decade of the 2000s. The analogue film further preserves this atmosphere — the grain, the light, the imperfections and the spontaneity of the moment all become part of the story itself. For this reason, I would like to present the series not simply as a selection of photographs connected by their subject, but as an independent exhibition, in which the 26 frames can be experienced as one complete visual narrative of a single party night in the atmosphere of Comics Club. I believe that, within the context of BUNA, this project could acquire an additional layer of meaning — as a meeting point between photography, cinema, Comics culture, and the visual memory of a generation.
