Biography

Ana Nance (Myrtle Beach, SC. 1969) is a North American-Spanish multidisciplinary artist and photographer based in Madrid, Spain. With over 35 years of experience, her practice spans photography, ceramics, drawing, and installation, exploring memory, identity, territory, and our relationship with the natural world. A graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, she spent twelve years living and working in New York. Her work has been presented at PhotoEspaña, ICP New York, Paris Photo, Art Basel Miami, and Leica Gallery Madrid. A Leica Ambassador, Nance has received numerous awards and grants and is founder of La Tercera Nave in Madrid. She works with various galleries including Arias Rego Contemporary in Madrid, has held residencies in India, France and Miami. Her works are in numerous collections and is a professor that has directed IED Masters of Photography.

Radical Epistemologies, curated by Fabiola López-Durán, brings together La Tercera Nave artists Allegra Esclapon, Ana Nance, Gloria Oyarzabal, Linarejos Moreno, María Gimeno, and Pia Post. Through photography, sculpture, ceramics, installation, performance, and research, the exhibition questions how knowledge is constructed: what is preserved, what is excluded, and whose histories remain invisible. Across diverse practices, the artists explore memory, territory, the body, nature, and inherited systems of representation. Their works reveal hidden structures while proposing other ways of knowing—rooted in gesture, material, emotion, resistance, and care. Art becomes both a critical space and a reparative act, imagining more just possible futures.
