Biography
Vasil Vladimirov is a curator based in Sofia, Bulgaria. His practice centers on exhibition-making, artistic research, and community-oriented, discursive models of curating, drawing on his background in sociology and politics. He was the curator of the Bulgarian Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, where he developed the curatorial concept, texts, publication, and international coordination. The pavilion received wide international recognition and was accompanied by an extensive public programme presented in cities including Venice, New York, Berlin, London, Regensburg, and Bucharest. Vladimirov regularly works with major public institutions, including national museums and galleries, while maintaining a strong engagement with independent and experimental spaces. Since 2021, he has been Artistic Director of KO-OP Art Space, overseeing its development into one of Sofia's leading independent art spaces, with a strong focus on emerging artists, education, publishing, and production. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of FIG. – Festival for Illustration and Graphics, an international festival included in Sofia Municipality's Cultural Calendar, which commissions new work, hosts international practitioners, and publishes an annual artist book selected through an open call. He has also served as Guest Curator at Structura Gallery, developing a one-year research-based exhibition programme, and as Guest Curator for ETC magazine, curating its portfolio section alongside accompanying exhibitions and public programming. Vasil Vladimirov holds an MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Modern History and Politics from Royal Holloway, University of London, and has participated in advanced curatorial programmes, including the Gwangju Biennale International Curator Course.
